GREEN RULES

In de toekomst zullen kunstenaars nostalgisch terugkijken op de tijd dat je nog buiten naar de waarneming kon tekenen en schilderen. De klimaatcrisis, vervuiling en overbevolking zullen de biodiversiteit zo ver hebben verarmd, dat kunstenaars zelf bladvormen en -kleuren moeten bedenken of kunst van vroeger imiteren.
De citroen refereert aan de weelderige 17e-eeuwse stillevens met fruit en specerijen van over de hele wereld. Die luxe, voor velen altijd al onbereikbaar, zal ook voor de rijken verdwijnen. Deze kleine installatie zal tijdens
de expositie-periode veranderen, passend bij het onderwerp, doordat de citroen uitdroogt of gaat schimmelen.
Uiteindelijk zullen planten de mensheid overleven; in de verre toekomst zal zich een totaal nieuwe biodiversiteit
ontwikkelen, die ongezien blijft. Stel je voor, het Rijksmuseum geheel overwoekerd door waterplanten…

In the future, artists will look back nostalgically on the days when you could draw and paint outside ‘after nature’.
The climate crisis, pollution and overpopulation will have impoverished biodiversity to such an extent that artists
have to invent leaf shapes and colors themselves or imitate art from the past.
The lemon refers to the sumptuous 17th-century still-lifes with fruits and spices from all over the world. That luxury, always unattainable for many, will also disappear for the rich. This small installation will change during the exhibition, appropiate to the subject matter, as the lemon will dry out or become mouldy.
Ultimately, plants will outlive humanity; in the distant future, an entirely new biodiversity will develop, which remains unseen. Imagine, the Rijksmuseum totally overgrown with aquatic plants…
